On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

George Clooney With star power like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Al Pacino, there was no way Ocean’s Thirteen wasn’t going to be a hit. The stars began filming in July 2006, in the cities of Las Vegas and Los Angeles, beginning a tidal wave that’s flooding the box office right now.

The star-studded cast is filled with names that include blonde sexpot Ellen Barkin, funnyman Bernie Mac, and Ocean’s alum Andy Garcia. The summer blockbuster is a second-time sequel, much likes its box office counterpart Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.  The Disney flick was supposed to be the biggest of the summer, featuring not just Johnny Depp but more CGI than you can shake a stick at. But the very bankable power of a Clooney/Pitt/Damon combo just can’t be denied, and now it’s Ocean’s Thirteen that’s shaping up to be the summer’s biggest hit. The flick is, at least, this weekend’s biggest hit.

Paris Hilton It’s always been difficult to keep track of Miss Hilton’s movements, but this is getting ridiculous. First, gets sentenced to serve jail time (45 days, to be exact). Next, that same sentence gets reduced. Then, Paris gets sent to jail, where by all accounts she is a respectful prisoner. Next thing you know, in fact in less than three days, she suddenly gets out of jail. Are you kidding us, LA county? An (ahem) “mysterious medical condition” was the catalyst that sparked Miss Hilton’s release, a medical condition that much of the media is already labeling a nervous breakdown. Hilton was sprung from the clink and forced to serve a home incarceration sentence in her posh. 2,700-square foot Hollywood Hills mansion. Punishment, my foot.  Here’s the problem: the LA city attorney’s office wants her back in jail. Right now.

Angelina Jolie recently sat down with Marie Claire and Esquire magazines to talk about her life and the recent rumors that have cast suspicion on her happy relationship with Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt. Jolie told her interviewer that Pitt is often the more cautious and health-conscious one in the couple, providing a staying influence when Angelina wanted to walk around the property she purchased in Cambodia (which had to be de-mined for safety). Angelina also took the time to de-bunk break-up rumors that have surrounded her well-publicized relationship with , saying the two of them have reached their “comfort zone.” She says that right now, the two of them are very focused on the children (“changing diapers” – direct quote) and have little time for the reports that say they’re heading for Splitsville. They spend most of their time at home and plan to have even more time together in their “later years.”

Knocked Up

Viewers in dire need of some raunch helped make Knocked Up a strong 2nd this weekend.

Katherine Heigl’s stomach bumped past several family-friendly sequels of late and brought a fresh dose of adults-only fun into the box office.  Although it didn’t surpass the strong swashbucklers in Pirates, Knocked has already grossed enough money to cover its entire production budget.  Something few other movies on this list could probably say.  With strong word of mouth, director Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin) may soon be adding another summer sleeper to his bedpost.

MPAA Preview

This is the very first edition of The Preview Review.  Here at FilmCrunch, we are tired of being deceived by flawless movie trailers for films that, in the end, are better left out of theaters and away from audiences.  In other words, the best-looking trailers often beget the worst-made films.  This weekly exposé will attempt to flush out those elements that make good previews go bad, and hopefully we’ll uncover a few coming attractions worth a second look.

Mike Myers Mike Myers is the most recent name to be attached to the movie project The Secret Life of Water Mitty, a re-make of a 1947 movie of the same name. This time, the film has been picked up by 20th Century Fox. Over the years, big names like , Eddie Murphy, Owen Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg (as “Martha Mitty” in a female-oriented version of the original) have all been attached to the project, one that’s been a long time in the making. This current incarnation will be written by Jay Kogen (Frasier, Malcolm in the Middle) and produced by Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. In the past, directors Steven Spielberg and Chuck Russell were said to be attached to the project at different times.

Now, it’s time for Mike Myers to take the leading role as Walter Mitty. The last time the project came up was 2005, with Owen Wilson set to take the lead, and Paramount scheduled to lend their studios for production. The movie was put on hold, however, when the studio failed to cast a female lead for the film. The film has been given the green light again…will this finally be Mitty’s year?

Katherine Heigl Knocked Up, the comedy from the creator of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, is ready for its June 1 release and enjoying great early reviews. In the hilarious Virgin (2005) Steve Carell played the title role, with his on-screen antics heightened by supporting actors that included Seth Rogen. Rogen is back for the lead in Knocked Up, which centers on slacker Ben Stone. After a night of partying in hip downtown LA, Stone meet Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) and the two share a fleeting night of passion. Thusly, the stage is set for the funny new comedy from writer/director Judd Apatow. Many critics are already saying Knocked Up is even better than The 40-Year-Old Virgin, high praise considering that almost no one is funnier than Steve Carell.
